Truth is, I have entered into this entirely on a hunch. The long term roadmap for the app is very extensive and will allow for the management of information types that are not project management specific. I think it will definitely be easier to use than any Project Management app they try. all you need to do is add start and finish dates and click the timeline button and you have a general sense of how tasks relate to one another over time.Īlso, you may have an outline that contains both project and non project related items, maybe some research on kitchens and then another part of the outline that deals with the timeline to remodel it. ![]() With SheetPlanner you can just jot your list down in a free form outline and add structure as you go. I think that for many people something like Merlin or Omniplan are just way to much. Users are going to be screaming for one once you release this on Mac. What would be your main selling argument for someone who would be looking into your app VS the other ones ? Is it going to be cheaper ? Or easier to use ? So far the main differentiation feature I see is the way calendar’s are integrated within Sheetplanner ( both Merlin and Omniplan sync with Apple’s Calendar, but don’t have one within the app ).Īlso, I think you should most definitely consider an iOS version. But one question immediately comes to mind : I’ve already been using ProjectWizard’s Merlin ( which I find better than Omnigroup’s Omniplan ) for a few years now and like it very much. But perhaps there is an outcome that could change how we work together.I like the “pinch to zoom” feature, and the Focus feature.įrom what I’ve seen, it looks very much like the kind of apps that would be useful to me, as I love Gantt charts. This is a software challenge but probably more so, a theoretical challenge. I guess what I'm postulating, is a new project management schema, that brings in the individual action management of OF to project management. In OmniFocus, I can be a little bit looser, but still feel on track. What I've found with OmniPlan, is that it works, but I must keep super clean on all details. Where my work currently differs (and I acknowledge, I'm in the minority), is that I'm trying to figure out work domain knowledge as I go, and bring on help in a kind of ad-hoc way. Domain knowledge is also especially important. I realize there is a methodology to (software-based) project management involving multiple human and other resources, and that is where project management software, properly applied, can shine. Both were projects that mostly were me as the one doing the work, and resources weren't significant. I don't have a breadth of project management software experience, but I've devoted a lot of time to two such projects, one in Microsoft Project for Mac LONG ago (don't laugh ), and now with OmniPlan.
